Award Winning Barrell Bourbon and Whiskey
Extraordinary, Ultimate Recommendation from Ultimate Spirits Challenge
We're proud to announce that both Barrell Bourbon Batch 004 and Barrell Whiskey Batch 001 were finalists in the 2015 Ultimate Spirits Challenge. Scoring 95 points, Batch 004 earned the highest accolade, "Extraordinary, Ultimate Recommendation," tying with Blanton's Gold Edition Single Barrel, Four Roses Limited Edition Small Batch, and Woodford Reserve Double Oaked Kentucky Straight Bourbon. Barrell Whiskey Batch 001 scored 93 points and earned an "Excellent, Highly Recommended" accolade. Each spirit at this world-class competition is evaluated blind by panels in multi-stages assessments, and gets a unique score on a 100 point scale, as well as detailed tasting notes from the judges. Double Gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition
As if we're not excited enough, Barrell Bourbon Batch 004 and Barrell Whiskey Batch 001 both won the prestigious Double Gold medal in the 2015 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. The Double Gold medal, not easily attained, is given to entrants that unanimously receive a gold medal by the tasting panel. The San Francisco World Spirits competition is the largest international spirits competition in the United States. Judging is by a prestigious panel of nationally recognized spirits experts and is based on a blind, consensual procedure. More than 1,500 spirits were judged as part of the 2015 competition - the largest in their competition history. The full list of results will appear April 4th on their website.
New Releases
Barrell Bourbon Batch 004, released in March, is a Kentucky Straight Bourbon aged for 6 years and 4 months. This batch was bottled at 116.7 proof without the use of chill-filtration. The bourbon is robust and amber hued with an aroma of cast iron pan cooked cornbread slathered with hand-crushed peppercorns. Bursts of sea salt and slowly cooked peach preserves give way to smoldering Turkish tobacco across your tongue. You can read the tasting notes here:
Barrell Whiskey Batch 001, released in January, is made from a bourbon mash of corn, rye and malted barley. The whiskey was distilled in Indiana and matured in Kentucky for seven years in ex-bourbon barrels, and then bottled at 122.5 proof. As a result, the whiskey has a brilliant, golden color along with an aroma of tobacco, persimmon and chocolate. Notes of cooked stone fruits, roasted corn, toasted oak and chewy leather dominate the palate, and lead to a finish accented by hints of chocolate and hazelnut.
