Ultimate Spirits Challenge Awards The results are in and we want to share the news with you...

Score: 96. Finalist. Extraordinary, Ultimate Recommendation.

American/Bourbon Category

“Cherry syrup and toffee come in strong up front. In the mouth, maple candy and vanilla mix with hints of cinnamon and clove. A good dose of toast shows up on the finish.”

Score: 96. Finalist. Extraordinary, Ultimate Recommendation.

Rum Category

“Considerable funk and tropical fruits characterize the nose with mashed sweet banana and salted caramel. In the mouth the high toned and tart fruit remains tropical with a fermented yeastiness. Interesting and complex.” Barrell Rum Batch 001 was the only rum that scored 96 points, the second highest score. Only Appleton Estates 21 Year Old Jamaican Rum received a higher score.

Score: 95. Finalist. Extraordinary, Ultimate Recommendation.

American Whiskey Category

“Full of flavor and intensity, it opens up with notes of salt taffy before revealing candied lemon and burnt honey. The finish has hints of cigar box.”

Score: 95. Extraordinary, Ultimate Recommendation.

American/Bourbon Category

“Here is proof that sometimes the most beautiful artist is the barrel itself! Even after 13 years, this has emerged with a warm nose of pecan, followed by a palate lush with vanilla, sticky toffee pudding, and a lush mouthfeel. Bombastic yet well rounded.”

Each spirit at the Ultimate Spirits Challenge is reviewed under ideal tasting conditions over a period of time that allows the product to express its best characteristics, then evaluated blind by panels in multi-stages assessments to remove any inherent or individual bias. These awards follow our success with Barrell Bourbon Batches 006 and 007 at last year's competition.
